Lucas Lang, Reporter

Lucas Lang, a first-year journalism student and junior, has two nicknames—Luca and “Pookie,” which came from the Disney Channel show “Jessie.” Lang aspires to one day own a boat so he can fulfill his dream of traveling the world; he first wants to visit Australia since his father traveled there in the past. Being born to a Brazilian family and growing up in the United States, Lang has learned to speak three different languages: Spanish, Portuguese and English. He values humor in his friends, since he believes friends are supposed to make you laugh. A quote Lang lives by is, “You can’t choose your family, but you can choose your friends.” Lang is passionate about playing the guitar and spends his spare time strumming. Lang’s friends say he is a very positive person and always wishes people the best. Lang values stories that are unheard by the media and believes the media should shine light on lesser heard stories since they can have the same value as big stories and provide a platform for overlooked individuals. In particular, he thinks the LGBTQ+ “panic” legal defense as well as the wars in Central and South America should get more attention in the news.
