Varshith Gunjapally, Reporter

Varshith Gunjapally, a freshman and first-year journalism student, was once known as “Terry” in elementary school because of “Dinosaur King,” a show he used to watch. He speaks English and, from his time living in France, a minimal amount of French. He is passionate about aerodynamics and airplanes, so he intends to get a master’s degree in engineering or physics. Gunjapally’s goal in life is to create world peace. His favorite motto is that of the Russian Strategic Missile Corps, “After us, silence,” and he attributes his knowledge of Russia to his eccentric 4th grade history teacher. In others, Gunjapally values selflessness, and to him, it is important to be a reliable and dependable person. In his free time, Gunjapally reads, paints miniatures, plays “Warhammer 40,000,” occasionally exercises and does math. He fenced for about a year until he lost his passion for it, and he also used to make model airplanes in his spare time. In addition, Gunjapally tutors 5th and 6th graders in math and coaches new 7th graders in developing their time management skills. The best advice he has ever received was to stay on top of what he could and forget about the rest, though his desire to follow this advice has occasionally brought out a perfectionist side while striving to do his best. One modern issue Gunjapally is concerned about is the treatment of immigrants in the U.S.; specifically the illogical discrepancy between the rights of undocumented immigrants’ children and legal immigrants’ children.
