Aquila

Katherine Nguyen
Katherine Nguyen is a senior in her third and last year in journalism. She is occasionally called by the nickname “Katherhino” or “Rhino” for short, given by a friend as a quirky animal association. Nguyen speaks two languages: English and Vietnamese, although she is not proficient in her heritage language. A virtue she loves in people is their passion to do the things they love because she is then motivated to live a more passionate and happy life. In her free time, Nguyen enjoys binge-watching thriller movies and listening to K-pop. As for work ethic, she describes herself as diligent and reliable because she perseveres in carrying out tasks until the very end and can be depended on. As a journalist, Nguyen wishes climate change had more media attention so the public could be more informed on reducing wasteful contributions and helping the planet. Her main focus in Aquila has been on communicating stories through broadcast, and this year she hopes to cover important school events and explore Asian American identities. Her favorite piece of coverage thus far is her article on the experiences of UPA custodians, as it touched her heart to be able to share the stories of those who clean the campus while navigating a language barrier. She hopes to continue producing impactful stories in the future.
