Mia Guevara, Reporter

Mia Guevara is a sophomore and varsity volleyball and basketball athlete. This is her first year taking journalism. Although she has countless nicknames, her favorite nickname is “John,” which her brother calls her because they constantly try to make each other laugh. Guevara has grown up in a comical environment and loves to laugh. Her family has a long history of playing different sports, and her passion for sports started when she was 4 years old. She has played club volleyball, beach volleyball, basketball, football, softball, tennis and ping pong. Out of all the sports she has practiced, her favorite sport is volleyball. She aspires to be involved in a career with sports, such as coaching. She has coached a few volleyball games; coaching allows her to see the emotions players go through and how they can improve their skills. Other than sports, Guevara loves to cook and is most proud of her pasta dishes. She likes to put a twist on her dishes, making them unique and creative. She dreams of opening a cafe called “MiMi’s” because she wants to provide customers with a variety of sweet and savory options. Even though Guevara does not want to pursue a career in journalism, she strives to enhance her writing skills and explore different areas of journalism through writing articles, photography and page designing. She believes that an issue that is neglected in the media is women’s’ sports because male players are well-known but female athletes are not as frequently mentioned.
