Journalism students attend NorCal Media Day at Palo Alto High School in 2019. The annual field trip, held on a Saturday each September, is a “mini-convention” where Aquila staff attend workshops of their choice and learn about newsgathering, photography and other journalism topics.
Unboxing Day—the moment the latest edition of Aquila arrives—is always met with a gigantic feeling of accomplishment. Editors, reporters and designers gather around to get their first glimpse of the printed issue on Feb. 10, 2020.
Hard work pays off! Aquila staff members take home awards and other top honors from various competitions throughout the school year. Students are also eligible for induction into Quill & Scroll, the International Honorary Society for High School Journalists. Nothing says it’s time for vacation like a White Elephant Gift Exchange! An annual tradition in journalism class, the celebration before break brings laughter and fun during an otherwise tense week of finals. (Pictured here: 2019-20 Aquila staff)
