Aquila

Journalism Conventions

Since 2016, members of Aquila have had the opportunity to attend the annual National High School Journalism Convention, held in major cities in the United States. In 2018, Aquila transitioned from attending the spring conventions in April to the fall conventions in November. The convention was held virtually in 2020. It is co-sponsored by the Journalism Education Association (JEA) and the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA). At the convention, high school journalists learn from professional and experienced journalists in workshops on a variety of topics such as leadership, writing, designing, photography, ethics and more. They also participate in JEA-hosted write-off contests, now called National Student Media contests, ranging from timed writing to analyzing ethical scenarios as well as the NSPA-hosted Best of Show contests as of 2020. Each year, Aquila has brought home valuable feedback, information and new ideas inspired by other schools and professionals from around the nation. This page reflects adventures and achievements at past conventions.
