Holiday movies are a tradition for many and with the large variety, there are many options to choose from. Many will watch these movies to get into the festive mood and kickstart the holiday season.
Sophomore Ciana Reese Fortuna’s favorite holiday movie is “A Gift to Remember” by Hallmark.
“In a lot of the Hallmark movies, it’s centered around a romance based plot line,” Fortuna said.
“But it also shows the importance of love and family, especially when it’s the holiday season and you should be surrounded by your loved ones.”
Fortuna recommends Hallmark movies to people who are into happy cliché romances about two lovers. With no major plot twists, the Hallmark movies can be a relaxing late night viewing. Fortuna also feels an emotional and nostalgic attachment towards “A Gift to Remember”, as she used to beg her mother to record the movie so she could watch it later.
In many households, The “Home Alone” movie series is seen as a winter movie classic. For freshman Charles Joseph, the unique story is what really drew him in. When Joseph was a young child, he first watched “Home Alone (1990)” at a daycare.
“They put on “Home Alone” for all the little kids, and I really liked the movie, Joseph said, “I kind of wished it would happen to me because it
was really funny,”
However, even with his love for “Home Alone” and “Home Alone 2”, Joseph dislikes the casting choice for the other sequels. This can be attributed to the feeling of nostalgia, since many first watch the movie with the original cast and actors. As for Joseph, he has a soft spot for “Home Alone” and its sequel for the early 90’s comedy and acting.

Joseph feels that even though “Home Alone” does not have a strong clear lesson, there is an emotional aspect relating to family and caring for eachother with humorous scenes that make it worthwhile to watch.
Throughout the decades a vast amount of holiday movies have been made, with older movies still holding up through their artistic creativity and nostalgic feel. Sophomore Azlyn Pasco’s favorite holiday movie is “Fantastic Mr. Fox”.
“It has taught me to feel grateful for my family, what they’ve given me and how they’ve supported me.” Pasco said.
Many values true to Pasco’s self are seen in “Fantastic Mr. Fox”, which helps her really relate to the movie. Even with the simplistic plotline, the principles of achieving balance in relationships and ambition gained Pasco’s interest and resonated with her. Although “Fantastic Mr. Fox” is not seen as a traditional winter movie, she feels a connection to the holiday spirit through the underlying themes of the importance of famil
y.
“I think anything you get from other people or friends is more special than if you found it on your own,” Pasco said.
Since Pasco’s friend introduced the film to her, she feels the shared experience helped her enjoy the movie more. She recommends “Fantastic Mr. Fox”, because of how the film reminds her to be thankful for loved ones, no matter what.
