Akshara Kollu—also known as “Shara”—is a senior who is in her second year of journalism. She says her first year of journalism went very well, and that although it was tough at first, she grew to love it. She hopes to have a job as an economic consultant or to work in the economic or finance sector in 10 years. Kollu speaks two languages—English and Telugu—but can also understand Tamil as a result of watching so many movies in that language. She values honesty in people because when she expresses her feelings and opinions, she expects to receive the same respect and honesty in return. She loves to draw on Procreate as well as play the guitar, ukulele and drums. Kollu is very involved with school and is all about making a change. She is very passionate about her duties as ASB president and loves to help change students’ lives for the better. She is also a part of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Students of the Year Program, and helps raise money for the community she is so compassionate about. Two words that Kollu would use to describe herself are energetic and friendly since she loves to meet new people. Her friends and family are very important to her, especially her grandparents since she will be leaving to college soon and will not be able to see them as often. Lastly, the media is very important to Kollu. She wishes that people would educate themselves on local elections and bills being passed because the more people know about their government, the more educated decisions they can make.
