Anibal Gonzalez, Reporter

Anibal “Chui” Gonzalez is a senior in his first and last year of journalism. A 2014-immigrant from Nicaragua, Gonzalez speaks both Spanish and English. When faced with challenges, Gonzalez remembers, “son cosas de la vida,” a quote from his late father which translates to “they are things of life.” He honors his late father by pursuing his hobbies: coding and listening to music. Gonzalez took a coding and technology course over the summer, a class he says has persuaded him to look into tech-related majors. Although Gonzalez is not sure what career he wants to pursue, he is considering becoming a mechanic. Gonzalez also loves listening to music while he drives. His favorite songs are “Dile” by Don Omar and “Propuesta Indecente” by Romeo Santos. Gonzalez does not follow specific artists and instead enjoys songs individually. Gonzalez has grown as a person over quarantine, caring less about people’s opinions of him. “Don’t let a stranger make your day worse” is a motto he lives by. He admires confident people and thinks the best quality in a friend is charity. As a kind and giving person, Gonzalez looks for friends with maturity and the willingness to help others. In journalism this year, Gonzalez looks forward to writing an immigrant piece for the magazine as well as sharing perspectives of other marginalized groups.
