Deven Mangar

Deven Mangar, Reporter

Sophomore Deven Mangar is a first-year journalism student. His first name actually has a unique origin; it is a combination of his parents’ first names, Degie and Steven. People might be surprised to know Mangar is actually part-Indian through his dad’s side of the family. Ten years into the future, Mangar sees himself traveling to many locations around the world—the Philippines, Chile and Spain—and having a successful career in digital art or international relations outside of the United States, preferably in Western Europe. Mangar mainly speaks English along with some Spanish, and is also able to understand some Tagalog. Mangar admires friendliness in others since “a person’s first impression is very important.” Mangar believes his friends would describe him as “creative and sarcastic.” His hobbies include drawing people (he finds them more fun to draw than random objects), watching reality TV, (such as "90-Day Fiancé" and "1000-Lb. Sisters") cleaning his room and hiking. Mangar prioritizes mental health and physical wellbeing above academics, and likes to keep active, going hiking at least three times a week. Mangar is also involved in art clubs, yearbook, swimming—backstroke being his favorite stroke—and tutoring.
