Iris Vong, Team Editor

Freshman Iris Vong is a first year journalism student who can only be described as the embodiment of optimism. Vong thinks positively in any situation because she knows that there is always a solution and thinking too hard won’t help her find it. Despite her cheery and extroverted demeanor, Vong also enjoys her alone time. It allows her to take a step back and calm down while doing something fun, like crocheting! Along with crocheting, Vong enjoys other hobbies like tennis. She has been playing tennis since she was five-years-old. Although she initially hated the sport due to the pressure of her parents coaching, being able to play with her friend during the COVID-19 pandemic ignited a spark in her. Vong enrolled in lessons soon after and now competes on a sectional level. At home, Vong has a dog named Biskit and a cat named Jinjer. Her love for her pets, science and helping animals motivates her dreams to become a veterinarian and treat animals in need in impoverished countries. Vong is also extremely passionate about waste reduction. She loves nature and does her best to limit the waste she produces in daily life. This ranges from discontinued use of straws to staying away from plastic containers. Vong spreads awareness about how one can limit the amount of trash they produce by educating her friends about waste reduction.
