Miles Hines

Miles Hines, Reporter

Sophomore Miles Hines is starting his first year as an Aquila reporter in journalism. Initially, Hines joined journalism as a way to prove to himself that he could write longer pieces, outside of his English class. He hopes that this year, he can expand his reporting skills, and think more critically in order to create meaningful contributions. His hopes and aspirations in the future are to major in business in order to become a sports agent for a basketball player. He is interested in this career because he knows the job is reliable, and it mixes his interests in both sports and business. Hines values his family’s opinion a lot as he spends the most time with them which he loves and they know him best. On a perfect day, he would go out to eat his favorite breakfast, chicken and waffles, with his family. He grew up in a Christian household, so religion also plays a huge role in his life. He looks for loyalty and honesty in others and values building trust. In the past few years at UPA, Hines has become quite involved with school activities, such as joining the JV basketball team and becoming a WEB leader. Basketball has been an interest of his since he was seven years old, but he enjoyed baseball and football as well when he was a kid. This year, Hines hopes to try out for varsity basketball at UPA and secure a spot on the team. In journalism, Hines wants to learn how to design articles and also has an interest in writing food reviews. An issue that Hines finds important is celebrity mental health. Hines feels that many celebrities are seen as idols, rather than simple human beings with emotions and problems, and he aims to help correct this viewpoint.
