Nitya Swaroop, Reporter
Freshman Nitya Swaroop is entering journalism as a first-year reporter. Within the UPA community, Swaroop is co-president of the California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF) and a dancer in Guzaarish, UPA’s bollywood dance team. Swaroop has had a passion for dance since she was young, partaking in Indian classical dance since she was seven. Swaroop also enjoys art and piano, finding that these many art forms have been a prevalent part of her life since childhood. Swaroop is described as innovative—for her skills in problem-solving—and dedicated—for her tendency to see a task to its end. Her problem-solving skills can be seen through her title as one of the original top murdlers—a title earned from a murder mystery puzzle game in her English class in eighth grade. Swaroop’s interest in true crime and criminology is one of the reasons she wishes to pursue a career in law. Swaroop is also particularly interested in the issue of AI, especially in regards to its increasing role in the world. Her worries about AI replacing humanity in many fields are a topic she wishes to potentially cover in her own article and design in journalism this year.
