Victor Valoha, Reporter
Junior Victor Valoha is entering his first year in journalism. Some of Valoha’s biggest interests are history, politics and the cultural heritage of his home country, Belarus. Valoha grew up in Belarus, but moved to the US five and a half years ago. He believes that it is important to learn about history in order to eliminate the possibility of the repetition of history’s mistakes. Because of this passion, Valoha hopes to be a professor at Jagiellonian University in the future. Outside of school, Valoha takes accordion and ballroom dance classes. He first took an interest in accordion after playing piano for a while and wanted to try something new. After playing accordion for around eight to nine years, Valoha can confidently say that he prefers it over piano. Additionally, Valoha likes to play strategy games, specifically StarCraft 2, Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and HOI4. When meeting people, Valoha typically looks for the “uniqueness of a person”, which he sees through the unique experiences they have had. This year, in journalism, Valoha hopes to write about political history, social freedoms and their benefits and consequences. He would also like to explore the effect that nationalistic narratives and propaganda have on society.
