Abenezer Fissha, Reporter

Abenezer Fissha is currently a sophomore taking his first year of journalism. Originally from Manchester, Great Britain, he immigrated to the U.S. when he was nine. He chose to enroll in journalism because he enjoys reading the news and writing. In his free time, he enjoys reading fantasy or sci-fi novels, hiking, playing video games and spending time with family. Fissha is passionate about soccer, reading and coding. Soccer is important to him because, being from the UK, soccer was fundamental to his childhood. He speaks both English and Amharic, the official language of Ethiopia, his parents' home country. An issue he believes should get more attention in the media is ethnic federalism and ethnic conflict, a current issue in Ethiopia. He most values his family, friends, orthodox-christian faith, mental health and physical wellbeing. His favorite quote is “Do not put off for tomorrow what you can do today,” which resonates with him because he tends to catch himself procrastinating. In ten years from now, he envisions himself working as a software engineer in Silicon Valley.
