Betty Nguyen

Betty Nguyen, Creative Director

Betty Nguyen, a senior, has returned for her second year in journalism. She chose to take Journalism again because she feels that the class environment is like its own family inside of UPA. Furthermore, journalism has encouraged her to pursue a career in fashion design, as she learned to love putting the final contents of a magazine layout together for the final look. Her love for fashion first emerged when she was 12 and her mother let her go on a shopping spree. The moment she saw a model with a gorgeous outfit, her fashion fascination began. Nguyen has a love for learning new languages that stemmed from taking a class with Spanish teacher Amiee Verapinto, who taught her that anyone can learn any language, no matter their background. Additionally, she taught herself French because she was drawn to Paris as a child and adores romantic movies. Her grandmother’s spaghetti reminds her of “home” in Vietnam. She plans to visit her grandmother after graduating, and perhaps Korea afterwards. Nguyen values people who can show that they care; she especially remembers when her sister gifted her a notebook filled with heartwarming pictures and quotes.  Nguyen loves driving on the freeway at 80+ mph, as she loves the sense of freedom that comes with it. Nguyen realizes that being open about mental health is still something our progressive society struggles with, but she believes we all have our own struggles and hopes for a future where sharing our problems has no stigma.
