Colin Updyke-Welch

Colin Updyke-Welch, Reporter

Junior Colin Updyke-Welch is in his first year of journalism because he enjoys researching about topics like politics. He is quiet and observant, yet enjoys playing the guitar ever since his father introduced him to music. Colin is inspired by Albert Einstein’s quote, “Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish by how well it climbs a tree, it will live its whole life believing it is stupid.” Like science, his favorite subject in school, Colin tends to revolve around scientific theories. He shows his artistic side through his performances in fall plays and spring musicals. Colin played the character Cosmo in “Singin’ in the Rain,” and he believes he relates most to him because they both are hilarious and cause their friends to laugh hysterically. Although he enjoys performing and acting, Colin views theater as a hobby rather than a career he would pursue in the future. If he could choose to spend a day with any celebrity, he would choose Stephen Hawking because he wants to listen to Hawking’s explanation of the most recent scientific theory. He dreams of becoming a biologist or politician in the future and studying abroad at foreign colleges. Colin is adventurous as seen in his desire to learn sword fighting and his participation in Boy Scouts. His favorite scent is the calming and refreshing smell of redwoods in the forests. Colin savors Chinese food and his favorite Chinese dish is Moo Shu, which includes vegetables and a sweet plum sauce. In addition to Chinese cuisine, Colin’s favorite drink is Mexican hot chocolate because the cinnamon and spices are well incorporated with the chocolate. During thunderstorms, he would be relaxing by his fireplace, reading a book and drinking Mexican hot chocolate.
