Joe Shem

Joe Shem, Team Editor, Assistant Web Manager

Joseph Shem, who prefers to be called “Joe,” is a junior and third-year Aquila staff member. Shem can speak both Japanese and English, but prefers to speak English. In terms of friendship, Shem looks for loyalty in his friends, as he does not want them to desert him whenever situations get difficult. Shem’s favorite quote is “With great power comes great tomfoolery,” as it represents his perception of the world around him. Although Shem has both received and given advice, the piece of advice he values most is that being quiet and innocuous is the best way to live, as following this advice has allowed Shem to steer clear of stress and conflict. Furthermore, Shem’s personality can be best described in two words: slow and persistent. Shem’s two most prevalent hobbies are knitting and video games. An important concept to Shem is moderation, as he believes that too much of anything is a pain, while too little of anything does not inspire motivation. Finally, Shem is concerned with public health care’s dependence on nonprofits geared towards supporting hospitals rather than on official funds, and as such wants to spread awareness about these nonprofits and the good deeds that they perform.
