Olive Luong, Managing Editor
Olive Luong is a junior beginning her third year of journalism. Luong’s ideal day is spent in her room, reading with snacks and some milk tea. Luong’s favorite genre to read is fantasy because it helps calm her nerves after a stressful day. Reading helps Luong forget about reality and let go of the outside world as she focuses on the story playing out on the pages in front of her. Luong finds that empathy and understanding are good qualities for a person to have. She values people in life who can offer support and lift others up. At school, Luong is involved with UPA’s Vietnamese Student Association as the club treasurer. She believes that it’s important to keep your culture alive. Luong treasures the food, language, and traditions her parents brought to the U.S. when they immigrated. In her previous year in journalism, Luong took on the role of Design Editor. This year, she is eager to step into the role of Managing Editor. Luong is also interested in deep diving into the mental health struggles of a student through her reporting. She hopes to analyze the pressure of expectations, plans, the future and college that teenagers are expected to uphold.
