Sheyla Escalante, Reporter
Sheyla Escalante is a sophomore with a passion for photography and animals and joined Aquila with hopes of honing her photography skills. Currently, she posts her photos on social media and especially values landscapes in photos. She is keenly interested in helping all animals around the world, especially marine life. Escalante was inspired to become a marine biologist after watching the movie “Dolphin Tale.” If given $1000, Escalante would use the money to get animals, such as guinea pigs, snakes, and goats. Her love for animals stems back to her childhood. When she was going through a rough time she would seek support from her dogs Simba, Bella, and Princess. “Dogs can't tell other people your secrets,” she says. Escalante’s number one value is honesty, feeling that being able to trust someone is the most important thing in a friendship. While her friends would describe her as crazy and funny, you would not know that unless you got to know her. She is quiet and reserved around most people. Escalante has a mixed taste in music, ranging from country music to pop. Her favorite artists are Ariana Grande and Billie Elish. While many people criticize the country for being too predictable, she feels that it is not an accurate representation of the genre and that it deserves more appreciation. If one issue could be reported more, she would want sexual assault to be reported on more. She feels that the media talks only about the initial story of the assault, but does not report on the long term effects and problem as a whole.
