Jenna Plasschaert
Jenna Elise Plasschaert is a junior who is taking journalism for the second year. She enjoys writing for Aquila and appreciates how the magazine brings people closer and exposes her to people she would have never met otherwise. Although Plasschaert describes herself as an introvert, she explores the world in a different way than most people do, as she loves traveling to all kinds of places such as Belgium and Taiwan with her family and experiencing different cultures from around the world. Plasschaert prefers communication through other mediums than talking which gives her an immense interest in learning sign language. Plasschaert believes that acts of kindness transcend cultural and language barriers. Deeply religious, Plasschaert finds value in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Because Plasschaert does not know which path she would like to pursue, she finds solace in this reassurance. Plasschaert’s kindness and compassion are very evident in the importance of her family to her. Plasschaert lives with her four brothers, her mom, and dad. She savors the moments she spends with her family. She shares an interest in traveling with her dad and loves accompanying him on his trips. Plasschaert recognizes the similarities between people all around the world. As a result of her travels and experiences, she is vocal about mental health issues, especially in teens; and is shocked that this issue doesn’t get enough media attention.
