Vidya Achar

Vidya Achar, Editor-in-Chief

Senior Vidya Achar, a first-year Co-Editor-in-Chief, is currently in her fourth and final year of journalism. A self-proclaimed “controversy reporter,” Achar has previously written pieces on drugs, religion, the queer community, name changes and sexual assault on campus. Her article “Putting a Dead Name to Rest” chronicled the experiences of people– from students to administrators– with changing their names. Another article, headlined,“Anonymous Tip Line Launched” detailed UPA’s changing response to sexual assault allegations on campus and the circumstances that led up to the change. Achar’s aspiration in life is to become an immigration attorney; she has already taken steps towards that goal by working at a law firm and taking part in political campaigns. Her range of languages is diverse, spanning English, Hindi, Kannada and Spanish. Although Spanish is a language she has learned at school, it is an important skill in her journey to becoming an immigration attorney. In her work at the law firm, she often uses Spanish to communicate with clients. Aside from her interest in law, Achar has a couple of hobbies: reading news articles, oil painting, digital drawing and dancing. On the weekends, Achar teaches young children Bharatanatyam, a form of Indian classical dance. She also enjoys spending time with her friends. Achar values humor and dedication in others: humor to get along well with someone, and dedication to show how determined and passionate someone is in reaching their goals. This year in journalism, Achar hopes to diversify Aquila’s reporting and leave behind a legacy of ambition.
