A Valentine’s Day twist on the classic sugar cookie
Yield: 2 dozen cookies
Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ¾ cups unsalted butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- Frosting and sprinkles
Directions
- Soften the butter by leaving it in a room-temperature environment for an hour or microwave for 30 seconds.
- Cream the butter and sugar together in a large bowl.
- Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract.
- Stir flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon together in a separate bowl.
- Slowly add the dry mix to the wet ingredients, blending them together using a spoon.
- Wrap the dough in cling wrap and chill in the refrigerator for one hour or overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface no less than ¼ inch thick.
- Cut heart shapes from the rolled dough with a cookie cutter or knife.
- Place the cut-out cookies on a greased cookie sheet about 1 inch apart.
- Bake the cookies for 6-8 minutes.
- Wait for the cookies to cool completely.
- Decorate using frosting and sprinkles of your choice.
