These cookies are a perfect way to show your admiration from someone this Valentine’s Day. The cinnamon baked into the cookies adds a layer of depth to your average sugar cookie.

Yield: 2 dozen cookies

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cups unsalted butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • Frosting and sprinkles

Directions

  1. Soften the butter by leaving it in a room-temperature environment for an hour or microwave for 30 seconds.

    Cookies should be lightly golden brown around the edges when ready they are ready to remove from the oven.
  2. Cream the butter and sugar together in a large bowl.
  3. Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract.
  4. Stir flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon together in a separate bowl.
  5. Slowly add the dry mix to the wet ingredients, blending them together using a spoon.
  6. Wrap the dough in cling wrap and chill in the refrigerator for one hour or overnight.
  7. Preheat the oven to 400°F. 
  8. Roll out the dough on a floured surface no less than ¼ inch thick.
  9. Cut heart shapes from the rolled dough with a cookie cutter or knife.
  10. Place the cut-out cookies on a greased cookie sheet about 1 inch apart.
  11. Bake the cookies for 6-8 minutes.
  12. Wait for the cookies to cool completely.
  13. Decorate using frosting and sprinkles of your choice.
