Haylie Yee, Editor-in-Chief
Senior Haylie Yee is entering her fourth year in journalism as Editor-In-Chief of Aquila. Yee enjoys drawing, reading and watching Formula One and Taylor Swift. She devotes much of her time practicing taekwondo as a second degree black belt. Yee shares her well rounded knowledge about the sport with the youth community whom she passionately coaches, and she competes in tournaments both at her school and nationally. Being a social butterfly, Yee engages in a variety of UPA clubs such as Art Club, Active Minds, Interact, CSF, Yearbook, Girls Who Code, Foodie Club, ASB and Learn it Tutoring. Enjoying movie nights and food runs, Yee values spending time with her family alongside hanging out with friends and having fun. Believing journalism is vital to a community’s togetherness and knowledge about the world around them, Yee shone light upon stigmas surrounding mental health in past contributions. In her latest contribution “The ‘L-Word’” Yee highlighted the vulnerability of the students whom she interviewed and their raw experiences, allowing students who do not feel comfortable speaking about their own past to relate to their peers’ stories. Yee’s goal as Editor-in-Chief this year is to step away from her own writing as she continues to uphold Aquila’s reporters to high standards while mentoring them to become excellent journalists.
