Chelsea Nguyen
Chelsea Nguyen is a junior at UPA who has taken journalism for two years. She decided to take journalism because of its enjoyable environment and out of her own curiosity. The class has given her opportunities to showcase her photojournalism and creative writing skills. Nguyen often goes by “Chelstea” due to her obsession with milk tea. Her obsession is ironic, though, because the first time she tried milk tea, she did not fancy it. She aspires to one day work as a journalist in the state of New York because of New York’s opportunities along with all the interesting people and stories. If she happens to ever acquire a large sum of money, she would invest it in her family as a thank you gift for getting her though UPA and a corgi. One of Nguyen’s favorite foods is poke, which is basically sushi in a bowl with a wider variety of types to choose from. Although she only speaks English fluently, she has “dipped her toes” into the native language of her parents, Vietnamese. Nguyen appreciates the quality of kindness in other people and enjoys it when they are kind to herself and others. Her favorite hobbies include photography and playing the ukulele. Taking pictures is important to Nguyen because every image has a story behind it. Many would describe her personality as bubbly and kind because she is always looking to help others. She not only participates in taekwondo but is also a part of the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps, a program that teaches valuable lessons to young kids. Last year, she started an Instagram account called “Chelsea’s Column” where she gives advice to those who struggle in her science class, chemistry, but has now expanded to include AP Biology. Journalism is a class she loves and is very excited to take this year, and she is determined to develop her photojournalistic skills.
