Taylor Nguyen, Web Manager

Junior Taylor Nguyen is a second-year in the journalism class. Nguyen is especially interested in designing, broadcasting, and photojournalism. Last year, Nguyen contributed through designing pages of the “Point Your Toes” and “More Sesame” articles, along with participating in making the “Man on the Street” broadcast, where she went around asking students “what are you listening to?” This year, Nguyen’s responsibilities include being Publicity and Web Manager, putting her in charge of Aquila’s social media account and website. In terms of coverage goals this year, Nguyen would like to cover LGBTQ+ films, music reviews, cultural food and fashion. Nguyen is also interested in writing about an issue that has been bothering her: double standards on gender. Nguyen finds it especially frustrating to see men get praised for doing the bare minimum, such as taking care of children as a single-father, whereas a woman would barely get acknowledged doing the same as a single-mother, and would like this topic to get more media attention. Nguyen stated that the creative freedom journalists have to express stories and news is her favorite aspect of journalism. Looking ahead, although still unsure, Nguyen aspires to have a future related to editing videos, graphic designing or creating food-related content. However, instead of worrying too much about her future, Nguyen would rather “live in the present,” as her favorite motto expresses. She especially likes this motto for reminding her to enjoy the moment rather than dreading an unknown future. Nguyen is passionate about music, specifically indie, kpop, rock and R&B. She values the work and time people put into producing, composing, writing or singing to make music. If she had a whole day to herself, Nguyen would spend the day baking with her cousins and collecting little figurines.
